• La Leona Petrified Forest and Paleontologic Field
Only 15 minutes away from the Roadhouse and Country Lodge La Leona, located within the Estancia Santa Teresita and declared "Protected Area" by UNESCO, it can only be visited with authorized guides. It was here where an archeological expedition found at the threshold of the new millennium the famous “Puertosaurus Reuili”, the greatest dinosaur skeleton discovered up to this moment, with a total length superior to 135 ft (40 m). The Petrified Forest is a silent testimony of what the Patagonia was 150 million years ago, a tropical forest inhabited by enormous creatures. Today it is a unique phantasmal landscape where due to the erosion of the wind, in addition to the gigantic petrified trees, you can observe dinosaur fossils on the ground level.
Managed by Andes Expeditions this excursion has daily departures from the Roadhouse and Country Lodge La Leona. Ask us for your reservations.
